VIOLET / PURPLE

time is purple just before night…

Violet (purple) is found between the primary colors of red and blue. It is nicely balanced between the two - the energy of red and the calmness of blue - an equilibrium in which we sense qualities of honor, worldliness and majesty. Violet is a color of fulfilment and can spark passion and feelings of wealth. As it appears at the end of the rainbow, it can symbolize the end of the known; the end of what is understood. In that way it imparts a sense of mystery, magic and curiosity. It also represents the end of the chakras - the top, the most high. That is why violet - or purple - is a common choice when representing matters of spirituality.

In our subtle bodies, it relates to our innermost thoughts and our path towards awakening/enlightenment (along with the color white).

SUBTLE BODY

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
The seventh, and last, of the major chakras is the Crown or Sahasrara. In Sanskrit, it means “thousand-petaled” and references a lotus flower with a thousand petals. Floating gently above the top of the head, the Crown is the chakra of enlightenment and thought to be the link, or portal, connecting us to cosmic consciousness and universal awareness. Signs of an open crown include feeling a connection to a higher power and an awareness that all energy is one.

Location: Top of head / area floating just above the head.

Key Concepts: enlightenment, consciousness, divine connection, transcendence, oneness.

Energy: Perception, Awareness + Spiritual Connection

I UNDERSTAND.
I AM ONE WITH ALL.
I AM DIVINE.
I AM A SPIRITUAL BEING IN A HUMAN BODY.
I AM CONNECTED TO MY HIGHER POWER.
I KNOW THAT ALL ENERGY IS ONE.

Sense: empathy + unity

(note: while some say the crown chakra corresponds with the sound of OM; others say that to connect with the crown, we must not chant, but simply listen.)

NATURE + MOVEMENT

Physical Element: everyting, nothing, and all things beyond and in between.

Crystal: Amethyst or Clear Quartz

Foods: N/A – as this chakra is housed spiritually, rather than within the physical body, detox and fasting are most helpful in working with the Crown chakra. Also increasing hydration and limiting toxins.

Activities to balance your Crown Chakra: Connect mindfully to your breath, in a meditative asana (yoga posture) such as lotus, half lotus, savasana or tree. Begin to quiet your mind and open your awareness to the universal consciousness and to all that is beyond. Allow yourself to move past the instinct to DO, and allow yourself to simply BE.

Yoga Postures: Sarvangasana (shoulder stand), Padmasana (lotus pose), Ardha Padmasana (half-lotus), Savasana (corpse pose), Vrikshasana (tree pose)

POEM: The Wind Sings Welcome in Early Spring, Carl Sandburg

The grip of the ice is gone now.
The silvers chase purple.
The purples tag silver.
They let out their runners
Here where summer says to the lilies:
'Wish and be wistful,
Circle this wind-hunted, wind-sung water.'

Come along always, come along now.
You for me, kiss me, pull me by the ear.
Push me along with the wind push.
Sing like the whinnying wind.
Sing like the hustling obstreperous wind.

Have you ever seen deeper purple...
this in my wild wind fingers?
Could you have more fun with a pony or a goat?
Have you seen such flicking heels before,
Silver jig heels on the purple sky rim?
Come along always, come along now.
